Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

Authors Discovered and Read in 2015
Initial Thoughts:
I’m kind of torn to write this list as the year isn’t over. I feel like I will discover at least three new-to-me authors within the next few weeks if I manage to tackle my “immediate immediate” TBR (which I won’t name because they’re bound to be changed on the whim).
Although some authors listed below were known before 2015, it wasn’t until this year that I actually got to reading their stuff–that’s the benchmark I’m going with.

1. Kevin Sands (of The Blackthorn Key)
Why? Sands is a pigeon salesman.
2. Victoria Schwab (of A Darker Shade of Magic)
Why? Schwab encourages you to bring out that credit card to shop for a new coat. Or buy fabric to make Kell’s coat.
3. Joe Abercrombie (of Half a King)
Why? Abercrombie could make a grocery list sound eloquent as fuck.
4. Andrew Smith (of The Alex Crow)
Why? Smith is a wizard at writing boys/male characters.
5. Leigh Bardugo (of The Grisha & Six of Crows)
Why? Nikolai. Why? All the Crows. Hail Bardugo.
6. Scott Westerfeld (of Zeroes)
Why? Westerfeld probably empathized with shipping and was upfront with Flickononymous.
(Though it may be unfair to claim only Westerfeld for this title.)
7. Shannon Parker (of The Girl Who Fell)
Why? Parker has me actively hate on her characters…but also root for them…? Destructive relationships are mind boggling.
(I’m about 80% finished but it’s shaping up to be an okay all-around read. I think.)
8. Dawn Kurtagich (of The Dead House)
Why? Kurtagich’s use of an epistolary format makes me dig that style of storytelling (which is a reason why I picked up Illuminae, though I have yet to read it).
9. Victoria Aveyard (of Red Queen)
Why? You caught me: Red Queen wasn’t all too enjoyable for me. But I cannot deny the anticipation for Glass Sword because I have hopes that it’ll surpass the similarities to other franchises holding it down in the first installment. Unless it doesn’t, then damnit hype.
10. N/A
It’s a toss up between Josh Malerman’s Bird Box and Allen Zadoff’s Boy Nobody. Both weren’t stellar books for me but they were engrossing enough to keep me flipping the pages. That’s just great pacing doing it’s job.
Afterthoughts:
Theeeeennnn there are the swarm of authors I thought I’d get to this year but didn’t because I’m such a speedy reader. I laugh.

Damn, you’re so right about Glass Sword. I enjoyed Red Queen a little bit more than you did, I think, ahah, but I definitely agree that there are so many similarities… I can’t wait to read the second installment, and only hope that it gets more and more unique as the time goes 🙂

I’ve been torn about reading the Red Queen because the premise sounds a bit similar to Red Rising. Half a King sounds really interesting so I might have to check that out and all this talk of this Nikolai guy has me eager to read the Grisha trilogy. 🙂

I must admit, I’m really looking forward to Glass Sword for the hopes that it outshines Red Queen! Maybe this will be one of those rare cases where there isn’t second book syndrome? Idk.
Gah! I still need to immerse myself in V.E. Schwab’s work! And some of the other novels in your list.
Also, I love how the titles for number 4, 5 & 6 rhyme slightly at the end.

I still don’t understand how Kell’s coat works. My mind just cannot comprehend… How do you even wear it? But who cares right? Flickonymous will never sink. And whoever *cough Brett cough* preferred Mob/Scam instead can just go away.

I love Andrew Smith, though I haven’t actually read The Alex Crow yet. Have you read Grasshopper Jungle? That’s my favourite of his.

I’m kind of surprised that you decided to include Red Queen but I guess this week’s list never mentioned anything about these books having to be your favorites. Oh and I ended up buying RQ for full price after all. I couldn’t pass up meeting Victoria Aveyard at Yallfest. XD I’m really curious if I’ll be team Aentee (and enjoy it) or team Joey (and not enjoy it).
And Kevin Sands! Savindi recommended The Blackthorn Key to me and I thought it sounded familiar. She was right, I did hear about it from your blog, lol.
