[Top Ten Tuesday] – #19 – Top Ten Book Covers I’d Frame As Pieces of Art

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This Week’s Theme:
 Top Ten Book Covers
I’d Frame As Pieces of Art

Initial Thoughts:

In an ideal world where you have a wall lined with bookshelves with slide-y ladders and then other walls lined with framed book covers…what would you opt to hang? Surprisingly, this week involved a lot of revisiting books and absent mindedly staring at all the details of book covers to see which one I coveted the most. Some quickly came to mind while others required a good staring–but I think the general consensus is that I have dry sockets from too much cover gazing. The things you do, right?

I certainly do apologize that I wasn’t able to change this weeks theme up with some creative pizazz.

Book Covers Coveted to be Framed:

A Monster Calls - Patrick Ness (Cover)1. A Monster Calls – Patrick Ness

I haven’t read this yet (shame on me) but I think it’s kind of a stark contrast to the other bright covers.

the storied life of aj fikry2. The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry – Gabrielle Zevin

I’m holding my breath for this one when I get around to reading this next week (spoiler alert: it’s one of my Bout of Books reads). But there’s truly something about this cover that’s real mellow, honest, and picturesque.

[Top Ten Tuesday] – #18 – Top Ten Books If You Enjoy Literary Gastronomy

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This Week’s Theme:
Top Ten Books If You Enjoy
Literary Gastronomy

 Initial Thoughts:

Do you like food? I like food. Love, even.

…Did I really just open up this post with that prompt. Oh dear, well there’s only going up from here—I hope.

What a potentially questionable choice of mine to take this route. This week’s theme is based on “books you would enjoy if you like X” subbing the variable for anything of entertainment. My focus considers foodie moments in non-food/culinary-centric novels. I mean, I’m sure we’ve all gone through a love/hate relationships with people who eat food on screen because it’s food. For readers who don’t know, gastronomy is just a fancy term for, as defined by Merriam-Webster: the art or activity of cooking and eating fine food. And no, I’m not detailing cookbooks…but rather memorable scenes with the involvement of food. The only cookbook I use is Google anyways.

I’m sure we’ve all come across mouth-watering scenes involving food or maybe just we were hangry (that’s hungry + angry; especially when anger results from hunger) during the read that sparked the need to feed and find sustenance. When I look back on some novels, I’m actually perplexed at the fact that sometimes…there’s no indication that they’ve eaten food. I guess it doesn’t come across as interesting but the inner foodie in me says otherwise.

I apologize in advance if you are starving and begin to salivate as this entire post is talking about food.

[Top Ten Tuesday] – #17 – Top Ten Characters With Punishable Offences

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This Week’s Theme:
Top Ten Characters
With Punishable Offences

Initial Thoughts:

This week’s theme was character driven with an open-ended interpretation for what we wanted to do. But good ol’ freebies to let me think of some ridiculous topic…am I right, or am I right?

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I hate these characters (maybe)… I just think it wouldn’t hurt to, you know, give them a nudge of sorts. And let’s get real; I’m sure you can think of some characters that you wouldn’t mind offering a haymaker or two. (Full disclosure: my initial theme was Top Ten Characters I Want to Punch In The Face… but this is much better and less angry.)

So I’m basically just going to throw some names out there of characters/things that come to mind. I do apologize if you like any of them. I’m only half serious with these choices and what I’m listing. If what I write makes you angry, super. If what I write makes you smile, even better. I’m not usually an angry person or a sadist by any measure… but I just think some characters have it coming to them (figuratively, of course).

Listed in no particular order. All images link up to their respective Goodreads site.

steelheart - covercatcher in the rye - cover

Persecuted: David Charleston (Steelheart)
Crime: Too many bad “metaphors”
Punishment: A meek nudges everytime he tries to concoct a metaphor… which exponentially increases in strength

Persecuted: Holden Caulfield (The Catcher In The Rye) Crime: For all the whiny angst when this novel is part of the curriculum for many teenagers already enjoying daily angst Punishment: A bitch slap or two… maybe even a backhand

Persecuted: Prenna James (The Here and Now)
Crime: For learning card games, eating food, and enjoying the beach life—while knowing the future is at the mercy of her actions (with the possibility of changing it for the better) Punishment: To have her watch as all of her playing cards get shredded, laced with gasoline and torched; food stepped on (just kidding #foodie), and ensuring that she trips into a wormhole back to the future
