[Top Ten Tuesday] – #10 – Top Ten Popular Authors I Have Never Read

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This Week’s Theme:
Top Ten Popular Authors
I Have Never Read

Initial Thoughts:

So I also had to clump some authors together, just because. Either way, take my blurbs with a grain of salt. All images link to the authors Goodreads page. Listed in no particular order:

1. Stephen King (The Shining, Dark Tower)the shining - stephen king (cover)

Unforgivable, right? But I have seen most of the screen adaptations though – so I guess that counts for something. Watching “It” as a child (on top of Are You Afraid of the Dark episodes involving Laughing Clown or Crimson Clown) solidified my fear of clowns. Like holy shit.

2. John Green (The Fault in our Stars, Looking for Alaska)john green - the fault in our stars (cover)

From the community vibe alone, I feel like this man is a god to many readers (his fanclub even has a name?). But by no means am I chirping his books – I’m sure they’re wonderful in their own right – I just haven’t found myself reading anything by him (yet?).

Also to tangent on something I just remembered: does anyone else find it slightly weird that Tris and Caleb of Divergent are Hazel and Augustus in TFioS? I mean I get that they’re two separate roles and should be engaged as such but say whaaaattttttt.

[Top Ten Tuesday] – #9 – Top Ten Character Traits I Wouldn’t Mind Having

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This Week’s Theme:
Top Ten Character Traits
I Wouldn’t Mind Having

Initial Thoughts:

Although this was supposed to be a REWIND week, I decided to fix up my own theme that I don’t think I saw in the giant repository on Broke and Bookish.

We follow characters through contemporary and perilous settings, taking journeys that test their limits and challenges their before-and-after growth in reaching a revelation. And in order for these characters to cross that bridge, they need to innately exhibit (or gain in the process) physical or mental traits, attributes, or characteristics that define them as a character.

So I propose: Have you ever wished you had a particular trait of a protagonist or supporting character? I know I have:

1. Christina (Divergent) – Legit Candor

Much like blogging/reviewing and all that jazz, the ability to speak your mind freely without true consequence other than an e-slap on the wrist is rather nice. But when the situation is centered in real-life, I find some difficulty in chirping things as I would online for fear of overstepping boundaries and inducing tangible emotions at the other person. So sometimes I do wish I could throw down real talk the way Christina does.

2. Tobias Eaton/Four (Divergent) – Four Fears

There are many things that I’m probably afraid of that doesn’t immediately come to mind right now – probably because my conscience rejects thinking about these things. But it would be cool to have a limited number of fears and not be afraid of such petty things like needles, clowns, insects with many legs, etc. I’m shuddering thinking about them.

[Top Ten Tuesday] – #8 – Top Ten Reasons Why Blogging/Reading is Cool Beans

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This week’s theme:
Top Ten Reasons Why
Blogging/Reading is Cool Beans

Initial Thoughts:

We all have different reasons for doing what we do. For one, I’m eating kettle cooked chips that I nuked in the microwave for several seconds while writing this. Don’t chirp it until you’ve tried it. Anyways, the theme for this week considers why readers read and why bloggers blog from a personal standpoint.

Here are some of my long winded reasons:

1. Value Creation from Idea Engagement

Standard, but the thing I find most important. Regardless of the traffic you get, there’s something unfathomably enriching when content can further a dialogue or provoke a thought that may or may not have been considered. It’s in expanding one’s thought capacity that I feel matters most. Perspectives and angles can change; are limitless, and in reasoning the “why” rather than the “how” can deeper meanings be discovered.

2. Sharing is Caring…Seriously.

Albeit just a public opinion, regardless of the degree of positivity (or negativity) in shared content, it’s the effort in spreading ideas that keeps growth in motion. So this is more about giving back to the community (authors, readers, etc.) who have put the time and energy toward an art form that enjoys less exposure. This isn’t to say that literacy is declining or anything but just to highlight the idea that with the amount of distractions in the world, it’s understandable why some individuals may not find the time to read and/or discover certain reads. By keeping books in the spotlight regardless of one’s love/hate relationship with it, the importance lies in keeping literature in the present – and all parties alike only have you to thank for it.

So to you reading this… thanks for your continual effort!
