[Music Monday] – #9 – Luke Sital-Singh – Dark

Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by the Total Book Geek. The purpose of this bookish variant is to match a book with a particular song; whether it is character defining, a narrative element, or just an overall book defining track.

So why am I doing this? Well if I had to choose to only have one of the five traditional senses, it would be sound perception above all else. And hey I think it’d be neat to share music I listen to on a daily basis!

This Week’s Song:
Dark – Luke Sital-Singh

Book Selected:
A Monster Calls – Patrick Ness

Initial Thoughts:

This is a companion post to the review of review of A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. If you haven’t read the book, well, I think you should…so you shouldn’t read any further into this post to save yourself from potential spoilers that I may or may not guarantee will be in this post. But you can surely listen to the song! (I sure hope the track plays cause there was no embed button so I adapted one from the general format).

But first off: I’d like to thank Suits for introducing this song to me. The piano track and the vocal work make me feel all the feels again—both in Suits and A Monster Calls.

[Miscellaneous] – Bout Of Books 11

Miscellaneous is the tagline to store my random posts that don’t really belong elsewhere. It’s more for consistency sake so I can have an itty-bitty picture to follow suit with the post.

BoB11-200x200The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, Aug 18th and runs through Sunday, Aug 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.

Initial Thoughts:

What Is It?

Bout of Books is a low-pressure read-a-thon which runs from Aug 18th-24th in whatever time zone you live in.

The Sales Pitch

Usually read one novel a week? Challenge yourself to more.
Fancy the sports column in your local newspaper? Try reading arts for a change.
Interested in other genres and types of reads (i.e. comics)? Here’s an excuse to throw monies away (or you could borrow, I guess).
Already participating in a read-a-thon/read-a-long? Kill two endeavours with one book.

The content of this intro-post is basically the same as last time. If you do any form of reading, you’re basically participating…so just take an extra few minutes and sign up via twitter or a blog post—head over to the site for the deets. While the focus of this read-a-thon is to, you know, read books, you can certainly create value through reading other mediums as well.

Always: experience, think, and learn.

[He Said, She Said] – Let’s Get It On: Sex In Fiction

hesaidshesaid_featbanner_final_recolourize_lighter_c

HE SAID, SHE SAID is a brand-new monthly feature created and hosted by Rachel @ Confessions of a Book Geek and Joey @ Thoughts and Afterthoughts where formality is thrown out the window in no-holds-barred discussions on all things bookish.

Welcome to our first ever He Said/She Said discussion! Following on from last month’s #sexmeup readathon, we’ve cranked up the heat as we get down and dirty with a three-part discussion on Sex in Fiction. So dim the lights, turn up that Marvin Gaye, and join us as we take you into the steamy world of NA/Adult Fiction.

Segments have been colour-coded for easier reading:

[Discussion Prompts] | [Important Info]

In this discussion:

[She Said]  |  [He Said]

…and I hope you drop a comment in regards to the prompts at the end of this discussion! Sex can be the elephant in the room, but it doesn’t have to be, and so I hope we’re able to open up some channels of dialogue to just have a good chat–positive, negative, in-between–share your thoughts!
