[Miscellaneous] – Bout Of Books 11

Miscellaneous is the tagline to store my random posts that don’t really belong elsewhere. It’s more for consistency sake so I can have an itty-bitty picture to follow suit with the post.

BoB11-200x200The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, Aug 18th and runs through Sunday, Aug 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.

Initial Thoughts:

What Is It?

Bout of Books is a low-pressure read-a-thon which runs from Aug 18th-24th in whatever time zone you live in.

The Sales Pitch

Usually read one novel a week? Challenge yourself to more.
Fancy the sports column in your local newspaper? Try reading arts for a change.
Interested in other genres and types of reads (i.e. comics)? Here’s an excuse to throw monies away (or you could borrow, I guess).
Already participating in a read-a-thon/read-a-long? Kill two endeavours with one book.

The content of this intro-post is basically the same as last time. If you do any form of reading, you’re basically participating…so just take an extra few minutes and sign up via twitter or a blog post—head over to the site for the deets. While the focus of this read-a-thon is to, you know, read books, you can certainly create value through reading other mediums as well.

Always: experience, think, and learn.

Why Am I Participating (again)?

I’m pretty sure I found myself reading more willingly/unwillingly last time round’ because there was some pseudo end-goal to reach. Plus, I’m slacking in the reading department (but what’s new?)

What Are My Goals?

Two…books? Yes… that sounds like fair and attainable. Three sounds doomed to fail. And maybe [actually] participate in challenges and be more involved? Well, that might be a stretch, so let’s take things one book at a time.

What Am I Reading?

I’ll get back to you on this one because I swap around my TBR faster than [insert your choice of words/puns here].

The struggle is real.

Afterthoughts:

Bam—my second joining of Bout-of-Books—so here’s to hoping I can actually beat my goals this time around (most likely not though lololol).

Let me know if you intend to join this read-a-thon by linking up your post (if you decide to create one) so me and others will know your intents for participating. Coolbeans.

And if you’re still reading this, I do have a question that needs some answering: how do you go about neglected (or just extremely late) ARC reviews? LOL—I’ve had some for the longest time (re: months…oops). Goodbye high-percentage. Yes, I do feel bad; and yes, I basically spam clicked more than I should have. Le sigh.

Cheers,
Joey

  1. I’ve signed up too. Love your sales pitch. Haven’t seen that in an intro before. Very persuasive.

I’ve only just started to do ARC reviews but I have vowed to pass on the book (after asking permission) to someone who might be interested in that genre or to host a giveaway. That way I won’t feel bad & someone else has the opportunity to enjoy a book they might not have heard of yet.

    1. Ha, I figured reading is all about experiencing new things and learning, so why not branch out into other mediums as well! Plus, everyone’s a reader in their own right (or I hope so at least), so BoB can be for everyone!

Oh I wish it was physical ARCs, that would make things so much easier–but it is in-fact the generic galley’s that we are all (or maybe just me) daunted with!

  2. I love BoB and signed up too.

Lol…I’m with ya on the spam clicking and percentage deterioration. I’m really far behind on ARC’s because I’m a mood reader. I click on something now because it sounds good, but when it comes time to pick my next book to read, chances are I’m not in the mood for it anymore. And the vicious cycle of too many books and not enough time. I have no advice on this, just saying you’re not alone.

    1. Thank you for sharing, Brandie.

You’re always welcome here at Galley-Spam-Clicking-Overdue-ARCs-Anonymous. (No, really, where’s the support group for our kind!?)

BoB definitely helps in such a weird way. I think it’s the intangible goal for me to feel like I’ve done right in reading more voraciously than I usually tend to do by checking off the milestones set for myself. Compared to regular reading that’s just like…different? I’m not sure how to explain this haha!

      1. ha…there should be a support group for people like us.

I get you – the best reading week I had this year was the last BoB. It forces me to try hard to make time to read. I find myself distracted every other week by other things and don’t read like I want to.
