[Top Ten Tuesday] – #33 – Top Ten Underrated Characters I’d Share My Birthday Cake With

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This Week’s Theme:
 Top Ten Underrated Characters
I’d Share My Birthday Cake With

Initial Thoughts:

So….

(Last weeks theme: book characters that’d sit at your lunch table) + (This weeks theme: underrated books/authors) + (day of birth [Sept 9]) = today’s theme. With cake.

I figured I’d try to incorporate them into one topic, sort of. I can’t say whether or not I identify with the underrated/underdog characters in novels but they’re definitely among my favourite characters even if they have less screen time (in terms of not being the main hero/heroine). Though it’s very possible that some of these characters aren’t underrated after all. Either way, I’d hand them a slice and tell them, “you done good.”

….I guess it’d also be awkward to cut the cake into 11 sections (though I will dismiss the fact that I would probably enjoy eating a larger slice) so it’d probably be cut into 12; and you, said reader, can enjoy a slice of celebration for these characters as well.

As per usual, images link back to their respective Goodreads.

[Top Ten Tuesday] – #31 – Top Ten Books/Manga People Insist I Should Read

This Week’s Theme:
Top Ten Books/Manga
People
Insist I Should Read

Initial Thoughts:

The easiest copout of a list would have been in reference to last week’s theme [Top Ten Books I’m Not Sure I Want To Read] as they’re both almost the same topic (and I kind of do just that). This list contains content that I’ll probably end up reading/not reading despite all the hype and insistence.

But let’s take things back a second. A kind reminder that as much as you may love a book, over-hyping a book or series as the best read ever (or such variant) sometimes can detract one’s the willingness to read it and also sets the bar so high that even if it is good it may (or may not) be on the same perceivable level of good as the individual who recommended it. Then, it can be that the hype-r feels the “I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it as much as I did” (and hopefully not to the extreme of questioning the readers intelligence in reading–but I’mma just stop right there). Alternatively, the hype-e themselves can feel bad for not liking it as much as the one who recommended it and even though everyone can like/dislike what they enjoy–the fact that hype seemingly affects the read going forward is just derpy. That’s just my two cents–I know it’s all advertising in the end but just saying that books can often live and die with hype (or at least I think so anyways).

All book cover images link up to their respective Goodreads while the Manga’s don’t link up to anything at all.

This Week’s Theme:
Top Ten Books I’m Not
Sure I Want To Read

Initial Thoughts:

Doesn’t this topic basically cover every single book you come across? Anyways, these are some titles that just came to me on a whim. And by all means: if you can hard-sell any of the listed books to change my mind then that will be major cool points for you!

if i stay - gayle forman (cover)john green - the fault in our stars (cover)jellicoe road

If I Stay (Gayle Forman) / The Fault in our Stars (John Green)

So I’m not going to pretend that I know what happens in the meat of either novel because I don’t—I only know of the gist of certain events that happen and the ending for both. It just probably isn’t my type of read, and so, I’ll probably watch the movies instead just to see why it’s being so hyped (yes, you don’t have to tell me the movie isn’t a supplement).

Jellicoe Road – Melina Marchetta

I did start this novel once earlier this year. I also tried to continue it a few months back but it just read too slow for me. My bad?
