[Top Ten Tuesday] – #29 – Top Ten Book Considerations For Guys Who Don’t Read

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This Week’s Theme:
Top Ten Book Considerations
For
Guys Who ‘Don’t Read’

Initial Thoughts:

You hear it so often that “guys don’t read”, or if they do, you seldom hear about them raving about the feels for a particular narrative element. I am on the belief that like all other forms of entertainment, reading is an acquired taste; so much that a potential reader just needs to find the right book which suits them. But you’ll probably wonder where certain genres are at when you go through this list. Well, aside from those classy classics of historical fiction and straight-up literary fiction, the basis of books included is what I would normally gravitate towards. So maybe I’m a shitty sample size to consider and inherently make some harsh generalizations as to what I think guys would normally buy into. If your guy-acquaintance or companion ends up hating said book because this random kid on the Internet said it was worth reading then I’m kind of sorry (but not really sorry at all) because at least they tried..and that just means you and I have been successful in making them read.

Do note that this is the intent of this listing, to focus on books I think you could recommend to the male species that you may know (seeing that most of my readers are of the female kind) mainly focusing on the age range being between 10-30. I also haven’t read all of these so maybe my superficial judgment is meaningless after all. I have also provided you some lead-in’s for your eventual conversation with said acquaintance–and they are winning statements. Yes, 100%, you should try them. (Disclaimer: I take no responsibility if it doesn’t work)

[Top Ten Tuesday] – #28 – Top Ten Characters to Minimize Time Stuck on an Island

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This Week’s Theme:
Top Ten Characters to
Minimize Time Stuck on an Island

Initial Thoughts:

So does this week’s topic somewhat encourage polygamy or what? I’m just saying…that was the first thought that came to mind. And like always, I love putting things into perspective; especially using narratives to start things off—because I’m a try hard like that and perhaps you enjoy it.

Day X:

You hear cacaws and breathe in—salty—you think despite being dazed. You feel the contrast of the cool water lining one side of your body and the god awful sun heating the clothes on your backside. Your mouth opens to a dry, tasteless grittiness and you begin spitting, trying to get the specks of dirt or sand or whatever it is off your tongue. Unsatisfied, the slits of your eyes barely open and you see a heaping mass several feet from you. You roll over; a newfound euphoria takes over as temperatures juxtapose. You relax and unwillingly enter the abyss.

Day Y:

You barely hear the birds anymore and you don’t feel the rush of the water against your skin. You see greens and browns and yellows and everything smells like wet earth. Whatever that means. You realize you’re sitting upright against a jagged surface, no longer disoriented and the veil of comfort ceases. You are not alone.

But who do you hope to find?

Although everyone’s criteria for what can be found or is needed in a deserted island is different, the one common thread of similarity is that in the end…we all (ideally) want to survive for as long as possible until salvation is found and we can get off said patch of floating land. That being said, I’m trying to be as realistic as possible (for the most part, anyways) in my dream team even if it sounds like I’m trying to recruit slaves.

[Top Ten Tuesday] – #27 – Top Ten Character Arcs in Recent Television

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

This Week’s Theme:
Top Ten Character Arcs
in Recent Television

Initial Thoughts:

The original prompt for this week involved other types of stories; primarily those found in movies or television. With choices of listing either forms of entertainment, I have decided that while the concept and backdrops are important, the de facto winner is in the characters themselves in driving each own story. This generated list is specific to the relevant shows airing during the 2013-14 scheduling of primetime television. I also kind of watch mostly everything so it’s quite the mishmash of shows. No judgment.

I’ll try my best to limit the potential spoilers if you haven’t seen any of these shows yet. and I was also too lazy to finish compiling gifs for each and every show. I also hope this isn’t GIF heavy.
