[Top Ten Tuesday] – #163 – Books I’ve Started But Are On Hold

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish, which is now hosted on That Artsy Reader.

This Week’s Theme:
Books I’ve Started But Are On Hold

Initial Thoughts:

THE MAIN CULPRIT IS TIME AND DEADLINES AND WANING FORGETFULNESS (but mostly my awful speed of reading given my reading commitments).

Have you read any of the below? Let me know!

Crooked Kingdom (Leigh Bardugo)

Scene: Me, 200-ish pages in, not even like a month post-release.
Twitter: YO THIS SCENE WHERE [spoilers].

RIP me.

Strange the Dreamer (Laini Taylor)

I lowkey identify with Lazlo Strange…and I even got to a critical part of the story (hint: stowed away hoards of [redacted paranormal thing] about to battle) but then I was hit with the “oh shit I have a blog tour in a few” and then it snowballed into months of not turning back to it.

Red Rising (Pierce Brown)

Yeah. I’ve got no reason here. I even have the books signed oops.

Way of Kings (Brandon Sanderson)

Me: I love hardcovers!
Sanderson: Here’s a tome.
Me: I love hardcovers!
Me day 1 carrying on subway: this is far too heavy.

(I MADE IT TO CHAPTER THREE.)

Note to Self (Connor Franta)

I had intended to treat this like a coffee table read; coming back to it once in a while and read chapters here and there. I think I read like 20? 30? percent. Don’t get me wrong, the vignettes of stories in this memoir was decent…I just wasn’t compelled to turn back to it so soon?

Wallbanger (Alice Clayton)

I had initiated a buddy read with several people. Everyone has finished already. I, however, have not. Am I the worst? Yes.

A Conjuring of Light (Victoria Schwab)

I…there are no reasons why I didn’t continue this omg.

Afterthoughts:

Oh, look, a new shiny book just rose up the TBR. Better get a copy.

Cheers,
Joey

      1. Oops, I know who you mean. Wait, this must be the reason my sister hasn’t read it yet. Confession: I kinda spoiled the same thing to her. In my defense, SHE ASKED.

      1. The service I use (Overdrive) lets me borrow them for only a week, so it’s sometimes hard to finish the really long ones in that span of time.

  1. I liked Connor Franta’s books. They were pretty interesting and I liked that he included some of his photography in it. I like the way he takes pictures. I need to read Six of Crows already. I swear I am every single year and it doesn’t happen. Maybe this will be the year, LOL.

    1. Franta’s book wasn’t one that I could read consistently though. Not sure what it was, it just felt weirdly paced with his stories and then poems (?) and then pictures (?). I guess that’s why I dubbed it my coffee etable book.

It’s okay. By the time you read Six of Crows, I’ll have [finally] finished Jasper Dent.

    1. I also think it’s a series that I’d end up enjoying Red Rising (although maybe not to the likeness of wanting another trilogy from the same-ish world…but obviously that opinion could change if/when I finish Morningstar). I’d like to think that it has all the things I’d want in a story!

  2. This made me laugh sooo much! Heavy books… completely relate. I love them, but I have backache after carrying them round all day!
