So I have this 2016 rating chart, right? And it looks something like this (click to enlarge image).

Given the above, I will throw out some [new-to-me] authors whom I’ve enjoyed their works of:

Jeff Zentner (The Serpent King)

As much as I want to say Jeff is a “just a swell guy” on Twitter (notwithstanding his authorship), I think he’s an even cooler dad-figure. 10/10 dad idol. Full stop.

Tim Federle (The Great American Whatever)

Film is heavily featured in this novel and the recommendations therein are spot-on in tune with the protagonist. Also kind of autobiographical, maybe.

Jennifer Nielsen (The False Prince)

If you were looking for a MG Fantasy to read, look no further. The protagonist in this trilogy, Sage, is a lot more nuanced than your stock YA heroes. I haven’t continued in this trilogy [yet] but I will!

Simon Curtis (Boy Robot)

Simon is a gem to the book community. Not only is he incredibly receptive in his interactions (at least for me), he’s doing so much good that my mentioning pales in comparison to the resiliency of hope he exudes by merely breathing.

Neal Shusterman (Scythe)

In truth, I’ve always wanted to read his Unwind Dystology — but it was the commitment to a series that I had to tap out and say “lolbye”. I am pleased to say I quite enjoyed this series opener and his writing style.

Barry Lyga (I Hunt Killers)

This. Fucking. Book. Why did no one tell me to start this series earlier?

Nic Stone (Dear Martin)

You know how I talk a lot of random shit on this blog? To be able to channel that and speak to Nic about the most nonsense of things is amazeballs. Haven’t read her book yet but I suspect it’s going to be a strong 2.38/5.

S.J. Kincaid (The Diabolic)

When you can condense a trilogy of a story into a single novel, then kudos to you — because this book just felt effortlessly paced and was a breeze to read.

Authors At Events/Signings

Between Erin Bow (The Scorpion Rules), Kevin Sylvester (MINRS), Pierce Brown (Red Rising), M.E. Girard (Girl Mans Up), and E.K. Johnston (Exit, Pursued by a Bear) — it’s been wonderful being around their presence as their personalities is quite [positively] infectious.

Afterthoughts:

I am unable to gift you ten authors to consider trying but there are so many debuts I still have to read in my tray that I’m really hopeful to discover more in 2017!
