Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Week’s Theme:
Favourite Films Released in 2016

Initial Thoughts:

There’s no way I can just vomit a list of random movies that I enjoyed since I was a wee child til now so I’ll have to assign this list as 2016 films.

Have Been Released

Deadpool

I don’t think this is my favourite release from Marvel in terms of storytelling but it was a joy to watch for the crudeness.

Zootopia

Pretty legit.

Sausage Party

I peg this as “adult” Inside Out about food. Plus, the ending was hilariously crass.

Don’t Breathe

This was a really tautly written and claustrophobic film. It’s probably not the most realistic but damn were my hands clammy.

10 Cloverfield Lane

In truth, it was a shotgun decision to watch this film (and I didn’t even watch the origin film) but like Don’t Breathe, the slow brewing tension was what made this film work for me even despite the final act of the movie being the biggest what-the-fuck-is-this-is-happening?

A Monster Calls

A very faithful adaptation. The water colour animation of the stories were a wonderful addition to how the story was told.

Dr. Strange

I don’t think Marvel has ever failed me, and I’m just going to put this here even though I’m seeing it tonight (when this post goes live).

Notable Releases Not Yet Seen

Kubo and the Two Strings

I don’t see any reality in which I don’t enjoy this.

La La Land

While I was sad I didn’t get a chance to watch La La Land at the Toronto International Film Festival, I still really want to!

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them

Self explanatory.

Hacksaw Ridge/Deepwater Horizon

What draws me into these films from the trailers alone was the character dynamics being put into terrible and intense situations.

Afterthoughts:

So I don’t know about you but I’ve probably seen more films than the number of books I’ve read and this list was extremely easy to curate as there were many (many) shit films I’ve seen as well.

Cheers,
Joey

  1. I haven’t watched a single movie from your list, haha. I do plan on watching Zootopia, A Monster Calls (still need to read the book, though oops) and pretty much want to watch all the movies under notable releases not yet seen.

LOL same about having watched way more movies than read books and way more bad movies than good ones.

  2. I’ve not nearly seen enough films as of late. I blame TV cause they end up taking all of my time haha. I still need to watch Deadpool and I’m told Zootopia is adorable and I love a good animated film haha.

  3. I love Zootopia. I need to watch Sausage Party! Maybe I will get around to watching it this weekend. I NEED TO SEE A MONSTER CALLS like NOW!. Every time I see the trailer, I get teary eyed and start crying all over again.
