Initial Thoughts:

The actual “setting” theme feels oddly familiar to a recent one about books set outside the United States. So I’mma tangent this topic altogether to look at settings I would get fucking lost in.

Probable fate: I’d walk outside of boundaries and get electrocuted or some shit.

Japan/Akibahara (When You Were Here)

Although I did take a Japanese language course way way back, I have retained nothing more than what Anime has taught me. Nevertheless, I would be so overwhelmed by all of the cool shit that I’d just curl into a fetal position and never want to leave.

Akaran (Star Touched Queen)

Here’s the down low: I didn’t finish this book because I was confused AF. The sugary writing is good (?) but it was overwhelming for my tastes. This leads me to think that if I were to frolic around this world for-myself-by-myself, I would actually grasp the gritty aspects of it all. But…you know, probable fate is that I’d stumble into the wrong door and get maimed by a potted plant or something.

Brooklyn (Vassa in the Night)

Reading this right now and the urban vibes of this place are just so dark and magical! It’s not that the metropolis vibes are daunting nor is it that I’d get lost pizzeria hopping to devour Brooklyn’s finest, it’s that everything fantastical I’ve read so far has been really great.

New World (Knife of Never Letting Go)

Yoooooooooooooo. This would be awesome and terrifying at the same time. I do fear people would judge me for the monkeys in my brain going “omg im breathing? plants? what is this shit? what is that ratchet outfit you’re wearing? omg why am i suddenly naked” etc. Shenanigans, I say.

Imagine being blind and/or having to put a cloth over your eyes to cut your vision. Now add two children under your care into the mix. Now also consider something outside chasing you. Yeah…you’re basically fucked. (I still want to open Pandora’s Box though…)

Pro-tip: do not walk towards the sounds of ghoulishly screams and fluttering wings…or darkness. Just don’t step outside.

Confirmed: Mare is a robot with a built-in GPS inside of her. I may be directionally challenged but no fucking way she navigated through all the terrain easy peasy…

True story: I just want to sit in on one of the meals and be grazed by Lady Mormont’s speech. But unless I have Little Finger’s teleportation powers, yeah, no, I’d probably walk towards the Whitewalkers without knowing it.
