On Reading In One Sitting
Here’s a thought: why can I finish contemporary books in one sitting but cannot do the same for other genres? Actually, don’t answer this because it may mean contemporary is my true calling.
On Drafting Blog Posts
I have 1239781873213 posts drafted months later and typically only work on them when inspiration hits. There are times when dates catch up to me and I have to reschedule these posts later though (because it is incredibly awkward for a half-baked post to go live–which has happened before).
On Platforms: Blog Versus Twitter
Blog space and Twitter space seem to go hand in hand but being vocal on my blog comes more naturally as there’s no 140 character constraint stopping me from my word vomits.
On Negativity and Drama
Unpopular opinion: once in a while, I don’t mind there being negativity and drama in this blogosphere (especially if it does not revolve around me). There’s no way I can phrase this without sounding like some pot-stirring douche (which, I guess I am) but the point that negativity can happen is a reminder of how imperfect this community is. Plus it’s a nice change of scenery than overly positive comments.
On Resolving Non-Existent Bookshelves:
Bookdrawers — to which I am the proud owner of only one set of drawers. The rest of my books are on the floor; why, hello there two years of book blogging and still no good storage unit.
On Being Introduced To Bookstagram
Kudos to Justine (Bookwormaniac) for encouraging me to join Bookstagram but what the hell is with a percentage of users dropping “follow-4-follow” comments everywhere. I wasn’t even active an hour and bore witness to several of them.
On Blog Friendships
This entry can be summarized by listening to Charlie Puth’s We Don’t Talk Anymore (feat. Selena Gomez).
In truth, early friendships I connected with either aren’t around anymore or it naturally drifted. That’s fine. And though I’m not going to list any of those individuals, they were all bloggers who helped pave the way to where I am now.
On ARC Requests
Though I was a sporadic Netgalley user (and never Edelweiss), I didn’t officially start contacting publishers until two years into blogging; which is all to say that I gained successes without having to review ARCs.
On Blogging and Music
I cannot listen to music when I write reviews (much like studying?) but can listen to music when I’m drafting bullshit posts about absolutely nothing (sort of like this one, hah).
On Blogging Laziness
There are many things I would like to change about how I blog: from self-hosting, developing non-discussion and interesting features, and even finding a co-blogger/guest contributor — but I am just a [very] lazy blogger (arguably the laziest of them all. I will fight you on this) — and just the thought of having to go through the work often turns me off and I revert to hermit mode of quick fix pleasures of watching television or wasting my time on YouTube haaaah.
All of this is to say: do whatever the hell you want.

I always look forward to your posts! they always make me laugh & today as I sit here with a box of Kleenex, cold medicine, and hot tea…I am laughing hard, so thank you! I think you are the only book blogger/Bookstagrammer I’ve come across that uses drawers in a much more organized manner than I do lol. Lastly, I am also more comfortable on my blog than on Twitter where my thoughts cannot pass the 140 character limit…leading sometimes to half thoughts *shrugs shoulders* Great post BTW! 🙂

I won’t contact publishers for ARCs. I feel like my blog is not big enough to get accepted yet, so I will save myself the rejection. I love Netgalley, though. 😀

I find it hard to finish any book in one setting. I have rarely done this and the times that I have I don’t even count it, because I got up a ton of times but I did finish it in a day. LOL.
I can listen to music doing just about anything except blogging. I always have to stop the music and write.
I’m kind of a lazy blogger as well. I think that has more to do with the fact that the majority of the time I don’t know what to blog about.
I’m way too scared to actually contact a publisher about ARCs, lol. I just let them come to me (giveaways or if an author themselves contact me). I’m generally a shy person though and I hate small talk and social interaction, because I suck at it. I am socially awkward.

Oh my god, how have I never thought of book drawers?! I’ve been living in a dorm for two years now, and at least two of my longer drawers there have sat empty. You’re a lifesaver, friend. I totally feel you on blog drafts…I think I’m down to 15 now still in draft, and I’m waiting for the inspiration to write to hit me, but alas. Whether or not I felt enriched, this was a swell post for this week. 🙂

I don’t think you’re a lazy blogger at all! And, yes, I probably have about the same number of draft posts that you do. I start writing things that seem like a good idea and then when I go back to them I wonder what the hell I was thinking.

Joey, I have a theory about the first one. Can I say?! It doesn’t mean that contemporary is your true calling… I think it has to do with the fact that worldbuilding and rules is a non issue. The brain processes everyday life faster. 🙂

I feel the same way about the blog vs. Twitter thing. I like Twitter, but I don’t use it very much because I tend to be wordy and 140 characters is definitely NOT enough to express all of what I have to say. Blogging is much more my speed!

I think I’m going to have to steal your Bookdrawer idea cause the piles of books that are dominating my room is ridiculous haha. I can’t finish books in one sitting either, mainly because someone is usually summoning me to complete a task despite the fact I’m in my reading zone. 😛

To be honest, I don’t even know how to use Edelweiss. Everything about that site is so confusing to me, haha. >.< Also, I find it difficult to read any type of book in one sitting (unless it's a picture book or graphic novel). XD

Having book draws is very Rory Gilmore of you! I didn’t know you had a bookstagram, I just went and gave you a follow! I’m totally the same way about contemporaries but I refuse to even think about the possibility I might like them more then fantasies (NOT POSSIBLE)!

Say what you will but book drawers an incredible invention and I’m kind of sort of tempted to skip on my bi-annual bookshelf shopping and just go for a good chest of drawers. They just look so PRETTY.

My life actually has been enriched, Joey, BECAUSE IT WAS YOU WHO WROTE IT. I don’t know, I always like to read your posts, your posts are never BS to me and while I am not always as active in the blogosphere because of personal circumstances, it’s not even a matter of time, I remember that I admired you so much when I first found your blog. It was the holy grail. Everything I had ever wanted to see. I remember telling Nic about you, I see you guys are friends-ish now which makes me so so happy, and I begged her to check it out because you were my absolute fave blogger and blog and you still are, and i was so excited when she did and when I saw an interaction with you guys in my feed at some point. I wanted to be friends with you at some point, I still would, all of that rambling to say that no matter what comes and goes, this is a great blog right here and you’re not a lazy blogger. You put out great, thought provoking content that puts the spark of life back in me. Your posts do enrich the people who read them because there can only be one you. So go ahead. Fight me.

This is such a great post! I find it hard to read in one sitting except for contemporaries which just means I’m a true contemporary fan! But when you read a book in one sitting, it’s just a wonderful magical feeling. There is always going to be drama somewhere but I’m glad it’s subdued here in the book community. Even though you don’t have bookshelves, your book drawers look better than mine XD And I cannot listen to music when I’m doing stuff. It just gets me distracted. Except for homework which is super weird.
