Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
This Week’s Theme:
Favourite 2016 Releases (So Far)
Initial Thoughts:
This topic would be fun to write….had I actually read ten worthy books to talk about seriouslyyyyyyyy.
Based on when these reviews were released (or will be released), it’s clear that good reads don’t gravitate to me. Or I’m just too negative to enjoy life. (Note: I don’t DNF therefore 1 starring is almost the equivalent). Damnit all.
Favourite Books (so far) in 2016:
A Gathering of Shadows
Pretty sure I appreciated this arc of the story more because of Avatar and pro-bending…
The Serpent King
A book I hyped in my head: “hey…you–brain–I think you’d enjoy this book.” And I did. It’s a quiet and resilient story.
The Great American Whatever
As a professional black sheep, I have made it my goal to enjoy books most others did not. Maybe I’m just not familiar with the variance of LGBTQIA+ books, but I thought the voicing was pretty strong here.
The False Prince
This MG book has a lead far more complex than most YA heroes.
Favourite TV Moments (so far) in 2016:
Descendants of the Sun
So I’m watching this Korean drama (because the world insisted this show was good) AND CAN I JUST SAY THERE ARE SO MANY FUNNY BAD SCENES??? FOR EXAMPLE: THAT SCENE WHERE HER TRUCK WAS HANGING OFF THE SIDE OF THE CLIFF AND SHE COULD HAVE GOTTEN OUT BUT SHE DECIDES TO CALL MAIN GUY AND CRY AND ASK FOR HELP? Bananas.
Game of Thrones
“Hold the…” fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Also, who else called that Sansa copying Gandalf moment from miles away? Ridiculous.
Orphan Black
I watched an interview where the creators were laughing about wanting to continue to have Krystal on the fringes of the whole show (and in the dark about everything). And she kind of still is. Otherwise, she’s wonderful.
The Magicians
It’s all the little moments this genre’d show subverts its own themes that’s great for me. Plus Margo and Eliot are best friend goals.
How To Get Away With Murder
The pinnacle of this past season was the last episode for me; which, for your reference and memory, is when Annalise goes home and you get a greater sense of Anna Mae.
Afterthoughts:
Let’s not make more mountains with these ratings, second half of the year…
Cheers,
Joey

I literally predicted everything that would happen in Battle of the Bastards but it was still a badass battle. Plus Sansa is on fire so hopefully she doesn’t fall into one of Littlefingers traps now. I’m too invested in this Jon/Sansa team for them to shatter now.
I’ve not read The Reckoners series but I am so sad to see that Calamity didn’t deliver for you.

Can I just say how much I love the graph?

THAT DOTS SCENE MADE ME CRINGE SO HARD LOL. I hate kdramas’ damsel-in-distress complex…
are you enjoying it otherwise though?? :p or should I say can you overlook the cheesy/bad scenes?

I love your graph. SO PERFECT. I haven’t read everything on it yet but the ones I have I’d agree with (OK, only AGOS and The Crown’s Game). Sad that Calamity didn’t end up so great, huh? I was really looking forward to that one and now I’m treading the water kind of carefully. 😛

I have my eye on The Great American Whatever. Haven’t read anything by Tim Federle yet but about to read a short story by him in the new Stephanie Perkins anthology. Also, WHEN WILL YOU READ I’LL GIVE YOU THE SUN?

I absolutely LOVE this graph, and it gives me some hope to see The Last Star isn’t the lowest point on here, haha. I can’t wait to read AGOS, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it. Here’s to more great reads in 2016 😀

Thank Schwab for AGOS. Also, you probably should draw a trend line to predict your future ratings. lol.

I didn’t care for The Magicians the book, but I’m actually loving the show so far.
