Book Sacrifice Tag

I feel like it’s pegged to be sacrilegious or something to “willfully” get rid of your book in questionable ways — but I’m just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯-ing over here. Know that this is all fictional talk — it’d hurt knowing my labour was thrown away like that.
1. An Over-Hyped Book:
Situation: You’re in a store when the zombie apocalypse hits. The military informs everyone that over-hyped books are the zombies only weakness. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you disliked do you start chucking at the zombies?
Let me first say that this isn’t a “terrible” book. It was only okay. But while I’ve come across many polarizing titles, Truthwitch (Susan Dennard) takes the cake. I really blame all the promo happening on Twitter–which was just insanity. (Not that I’m saying you shouldn’t go about it but my experience with the hype train for TW far exceeded any other book.)
2. A Sequel:
Situation: torrential downpour. What sequel are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?
If you asked me this last year: The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey.
But with it being 2016, it comes as no shock to any of you that Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard will be used as my umbrella (even if I had to exchange my mangled copy I ordered by mail). To be honest, I actually enjoy most second books more than their predecessors 75% of the time (don’t ask me how I got this number). Then there’s this book which I’m still of the belief that if I had a map I would have appreciated far more.
3. A Classic:
Situation: You’re in English class and your professor raves about a Classic that “transcends time”. If given the opportunity to travel back in time, which Classic would you try to stop from ever publishing?
I had reword the prompt situation because the original had [you] throwing the book at the teacher who raves about a certain Classic title where you’d be joyful in going to detention to get out of listening about it — which is pretty rude imo.
If I can prevent Holden Caulfield (Catcher in the Rye) from phony-ing up everyone’s lives in high school English, then I will call that a success because I don’t need to angsty kid against the world echoing my prepubescent life.
4. A Least Favourite Book:
Situation: apparently global warming = suddenly frozen wasteland. Your only hope of survival for warmth is to burn a book. Which book will you not regret lighting?
I could burn a book I disliked but maybe I’ll play my odds and burn a title I haven’t read instead (despite hauling it eons ago). Logic is: there’d be no regret for something I haven’t yet experienced. Hah.

I need to read Glass Sword! I loved Red Queen. Like you, I was super pumped for The Infinite Sea last year. I’ve heard lots about Truthwitch but I haven’t read it yet! I loved reading your answers.

Glass Sword is painfully boring. *sigh* But I will finish it!
That said, I adored Truthwitch! It’s by far one of my favorites of the year. To each their own, I suppose.

These are some excellent choices – I wasn’t too distasteful of Catcher In The Rye, but I definitely see where everyone comes from – it is in reality, the story of a moody teenager.

I haven’t had the displeasure of reading Glass Sword (and I probably won’t ever) but I’d definitely use Red Queen as an umbrella. It’s nice and sturdy, and I wouldn’t miss anything that lies between the sturdiness. 😛
