Thoughts:
I participated last year and it was two days of positive vibes and cheer. So why not participate again this year?
The Book Blogger Love-A-Thon is a blogging event hosted by Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books, Cee @ The Novel Hermit, Hazel @ Stay Bookish, and Mel @ The Daily Prophecy.
Questionnaire:
As with every Love-A-Thon, an introductory “get to you the personality behind the blog” post full of vanity and self-promo shiz is necessary.
Name and where you’re blogging from?
Joey. Toronto, Ontario, Canada — except north, but since no one in the world would know the hamlet I live in…let’s just go with Toronto.
What genre do you read/review the most?
While I’m open to trying most things (minus non-fiction or biographies-sorry bout’ it), I do gravitate towards SF-F.
What other types of posts do you have on your blog, apart from reviews?
The feature I’m most proud of is my Think Aloud discussions which is a bunch of randomness no one ever expected to discuss through the scope of fiction. Here are some samples:
Love Triangles Are Actually Not Triangles
Not All Fictional Men Smell Like The Great Outdoors
Slow Walkers in Narrow Hallways Aren’t The Same as Aisle Reader
13 Types of Readers You’ll Encounter on Public Transit
Why Are Heroes/Villains Never Stuck in Traffic?
Why Your Book Boyfriend is a Cheater
Otherwise, I’m just playing it by ear because as much as I’m a mood reader, I’m a bigger mood blogger.
Best blogging experience so far?
Extending the digital blogging life into something physical on a very “hey want to go chill at the bookstore and maybe grab some food?” level. SO BECAUSE THIS POST IS ALL ABOUT SPREADING LOVE, shout outs to these cool cucumbers:
Amanda (blog @ Brains, Books, and Brawn)
Jesse (blog @ Books at Dawn)
Patty (IG @ pattycakess20
Shelly (blog @ Read, Sleep, Repeat)
Erika (booktuber: SGBA1)
Favourite thing about the blogging community?
The variety of opinions out there; especially when someone disagrees and there’s a healthy tension. I know having a space of negativity and/or disagreement isn’t for everyone but it’s fun and enlightening to hash things out and see differing perspectives.
Five books you’re most excited for this 2016!
– A Gather of Shadows by Victoria Schwab (my hyped review here)
– Calamity by Brandon Sanderson (which I am reading soon)
– The Last Star by Rick Yancey (because it’s the end)
– Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo (because Dreg feels)
– False Hearts by Laura Lam (because Inception meets Orphan Black?!)
Five books you want to read this 2016 that you didn’t get to in previous years!
Vicious, The False Prince, Illuminae, An Ember in the Ashes, Way of Kings, The Scorpio Races, The Crane Wife, Red Rising.
I cannot count.
What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?
Easy. The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands.
MG. Alchemy. Explosions. Bromances. London 1655.
Who would you recruit for your apocalypse squad (5 characters max)
– Alucard Emery (A Gathering of Shadows/Schwab aka Nikolai Lantsov 2.0)
– Inej Ghafa (Six of Crows/Bardugo)
– Thibault/Anonymous (Zeroes/Westerfeld)
– Leopold Fitz and Jemma Simmons (Agents of SHIELD) — THIS IS ONE CHOICE. THEY’RE A PACKAGE DEAL.
– … Groot (I am Groot)
Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?
Food (but free food is infinitely better).
At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would be playing?
In a perfect world, I’d be in an A Cappella group and we’d all be at a party and a song that’s in our repertoire would play and we’d bust out in a jamming session.
I wrote about A cappella music in the this Top Ten Tuesday post. My music recommendations, I think, are infinitely better than the tracks you hear on Pitch Perfect etc.
Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.
Any Sanderson world put on screen would look awesome, yeah? (Also helps in either pushing me to read more of his work–mainly WoK–but also opens up the possibility that I can watch the film as an alternative LOL.)
Author you want to meet and sit down to tea with?
Just tea? That sounds unadventurous. But, yes, Patty Ness.
Cheers,
Joey

I’m thinking about future meals a few days from now when the night isn’t even over and I haven’t had dinner yet…
Now I’m scared Blackthorn Key might not live up to my hype ahhhh.

I found that food worked it way into many of my own answers on my questionnaire as well, hahaha. I am always one of those people who is reading & eating at the same time though, so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised!

I’m sure Sanderson could be the screenwriter for the any tv/movie and he’d still be able to keep up with his writing commitments like omgwhoishe?!

I tried to read a Sanderson (Steelheart) book but man, I’m just defeated by its heavy texts and minimal paragraph spacing. It’s like reading GRRM 😛 I know it’s a good story but maybe I’ll save it for when it gets adapted on TV. 😀

I’ve only barely started Way of Kings but Steelheart should feel more accessible than any of his other works…”should (at least to me).

Your discussion on Love Triangles is the best! Sanderson worlds would look amazing onscreen, though I’ve only read Warbreaker. Yes! Read Vicious ASAP! You need that evilness in your life! Fitz and Simmons are my favourite! Definitely a huge help (and a good laugh) during the apocalypse.

Glad you enjoyed the discussion!

Totally unrelated to book blogging, but if I end up going to Toronto this year, well, even if technically you’re not there, well I’m sure you must know this place better than me… so, TELL ME WHERE ARE THE BOOKS ? 😀
And yeah, that Rick Yancey book, I am WAITING for answers! 😀

So much Illiuminae love today! I must make an attempt at the first few chapters (which I actually haven’t done yet because it looks like a thick read despite being written in epistolary format) and see how it goes…
