2016 Discussion Challenge
Last year I challenged myself to write 25-36 discussions. In terms of pre-planning and ideation, yeah I came up with a crap load of topics to talk about (skyward 85+), but only 20 of them were discussed.
So that was a bust.
Under my discussion tagline, Think Aloud, you saw posts like:

…and the focus of my 2016 discussions will be very much the same: craft topics that has seen limited visibility in the community (and attempt at humour in the process). So I apologize in advance for all of the weird shit that’ll be posted.
With it being a new year, I know it’s a common resolution for bloggers to want to write more discussions. So join me and take the pledge of challenging yourself to write them! Any food with multiple layers is fair game and the easiest to create LOL.
I’ve totally done the Book Courtship Tag. Not sure about the Coffee Book one (is it stuff like Espresso = theme)? It sounds familiar…

YAY! I am taking part in that challenge as well! I am glad you already have some sort of idea of what you will write, at least in terms of which kind of topic it will be. My mind is blank!

Most of my ideas are half baked. Word of the wise: just live your life and take note of things you see that’s funny and translate that into bookish discussions. You’d be surprised what can work.

I signed up for this and it’s already a major challenge trying to think of topics. I love reading discussions posts though. Can’t wait to see the topics you come up with this year!

Can’t wait for you to read them! Some tips that worked for me is to really just think about what pisses you off in fiction and then twist that focus to something you rarely see talked about. Hope that helps, otherwise, I’ll try to think of some better advice LOL.

Discussions are pretty tough; especially crafting those topics with limited visibility in the community. But really, any discussion is good discussion. Just attack it with your opinions and have fun with it!

Interesting challenge! I’d like to do discussions more consistently, but so far my method has been to write a discussion only when I’m particularly inspired. I worry too much about discussing things that “everyone else” has “already” discussed, I think.

Yeah, inspiration for me comes and goes.
While I agree that topics like “ebook vs physical book” has seen its days in the blogosphere, I’m still of the belief that surely someone will see it for the first time! But I understand the drive for originality. It’s what I focus on trying to reach for most/all of my discussions.

Oooh, a discussion challenge! I adore making discussion posts and even more than that, I adore READING discussion posts such as yours. You always get my mind working with your discussions.
I also plan to dedicate myself to at least do two discussions per week, one for bookish related topics and one for other topics such as blogging and life.

I never knew how personally rewarding/satisfying discussions are until I wrote my first one in December. I might be taking a leaf out of your book and making it a goal to do more discussion-based posts this year. Good luck with your goal, Joey. 😀

The best feeling is when someone responds with “OMG YES THIS, SO MUCH THIS” and I feel satisfied that I’ve found someone who shares the same feels as me across the universe (or the Internet).

This is a really intriguing challenge. I’d love to sign up, but I’m not as confident in my writing skills as I’d like to be. I think pushing myself to come up with discussion posts would put a lot of negative pressure on me. I don’t think I’m ready for that. I’m still reacquainting myself to writing, after all.
But I read the previous discussions you’ve linked in your post and felt the need to commend you. I mean, really. I find it awe-inspiring how you manage to pull off being humorous while simultaneously offering substantial content and ideas, making readers both smile and think, and presenting your ideas in an organized structure. It’s amazing. Long story short, I think you’re brilliant.

Glad to hear you enjoyed reading those discussions as much as I had writing them! (Sort of. Some were annoyingly tough to write.)
I guess the only sage thing I can say is that you won’t really know unless you try. And they can definitely be about any topic you have an opinion about (it’s definitely not exclusive to those that require you to be super positive about — but it helps).
