[Awards/Tags] — Seasons of Book Blogging Tag

Miscellaneous: Awards/Tags is the tagline to store random posts that don’t really belong elsewhere. They may involve tags, awards, challenges, and other book blogging nonsense.

The Seasons of Book Blogging Tag

This tag was created by Jordyn at J. Bookish and it’s always rad to see new tags being created by people you know! I was tagged by Deanna @ A Novel Glimpse — thank you!

Some tag information:

  1. Thank the creator and the individual who tagged you
  2. Begin with the month in which you have been tagged and move forward from there
  3. State the best gift you’ve received after answering the prompt on your birthday month
  4. Tag anyone

November

hunger games - suzanne collins (cover)…is the month when we’re reminded of how much we have to be thankful for.
Choose one book you’re grateful for having read and give a shout-out to the person who recommended it!

Canadian Thanksgiving is in October…but I’ll give thanks to Lionsgate and The Hunger Games franchise for sparking the interest to begin reading again. It was definitely the novelty of the games that got me interested; which gave off similarities to many of the video games I’ve played.

December

Brandon Sanderson - Elantris - Book Cover…is a time when friends and families come together and celebrate. Name one book you would give as a gift.

This really depends on who I’m gifting for. In a perfect world, I’d totally give someone a book I haven’t read so I could [potentially] borrow it afterwards LOL. An example of this is Brandon Sanderson’s ElantrisBut, I’d honestly give someone money instead because money is always needed.

January

…begins a new year. Name a resolution you made this year and if you’ve kept it or not!

I don’t remember forming any concrete goal-solutions for 2015 except for figuring out the deets of my self-hosting shenanigans. Figuring out the kinks to rebranding is difficult stuff—so, no, I haven’t kept at it.

February

Leigh Bardugo - Six of Crows - Book Cover…is the month for relationships. Name your favorite book relationship: romantic, platonic, or familial, your choice!

Because I’m still on a Six of Crow high…

Romantic: …probably Kaz and Inej?

Bromantic: Jesper and Wylan (of course there’s a subtlety to this you could argue)

March

…is the month for luck and new beginnings. Name a book/series you would like to re-experience as if you’d never read it.

Perhaps I’d wipe any thought of having seen the Harry Potter movies so, perhaps, I’d finish reading the books instead…HAHA, that’s probably a lie. I’d probably end up watching the films (again) anyhow.

April

…is a spectacularly ordinary month. Name a book that was so over-hyped that it just could not live up to your expectations.

We Were Liars. I’m not going to say anything more than that.

May

…is the month when the flowers start to bloom. Name a book that was a pleasant surprise to you.

Taking an academic perspective, I quite enjoyed the Shakespeare plays I studied in highschool. It wasn’t all that terrible. Sure I was often confused with the language and didn’t know what to make of it but it was definitely an  that I didn’t know what to make of it.

June

…is the time to take a break. Name a book or genre that you like to read when you just need to check out.

I gravitate towards other mediums of entertainment (i.e. television) if I’m not reading and what I seem to watch really depends on the mood and what’s available. For comedic intent: perhaps The Mindy Project. Something that’s a thinker: How To Get Away With Murder. Or a crime procedural like Limitless or Criminal Minds. But really, it depends.

July

more than this cover…is the time to celebrate your independence! Name a book that made you see fireworks.

Pushing through the boring exposition in the early goings of More Than This, feeling anxiety attacks courtesy of [character name] and discovering this new-but-familiar world just to make it to the end of the book? Amazeballs.

August

…is the hottest month of the year. Pick an up-and-coming author that you think will be the next hottest thing.

I haven’t read a lot of debut authors this year but from hype alone, perhaps Victoria Aveyard or Sabaa Tahir? Red Queen was full of meh and I haven’t read Ember in the Ashes yet but I do have it. My focus is really on whether or not any debut authors edging the point of finishing their trilogy (because it’s usually a trilogy) will rise above their previous work.

September

handmaids tale cover…is time for students to go back to school! Pick a book you read for school that you actually enjoyed.

Instead of saying The Outsiders time and time again, I’ll go with Atwood’s The Handmaids Tale. Sure I only rated it 3/5 after the fact but it was still an engrossing read during academic studies when everything was angst ridden and rage against the world (I assure you that I was not angsty). It was definitely one of many dystopian fiction that propelled me to enjoy the genre.

October

A Darker Shade final for Irene…is time to celebrate Halloween! Pick one character that you would love to dress up as.

As of right now: Kell (A Darker Shade of Magic). Someone figure out a way to get me his damn coat. Think of all the wondrous things you could keep in it. Like food. Snackages on the go anytime, anywhere.

  1. Ahh, dressing up as Kell would be so amazing! I definitely need a magic coat – all of the sweets that could fit in all the pockets… would definitely be handy 😉 I really want to read A Handmaid’s Tale, because dystopian is one of my favourite genres too. Thank-you for sharing this, I think I’ll have to be doing this tag XD

  2. A fantastic post, Joey! I know what you mean about the Harry Potter series, I still haven’t read it and I’ve seen the first three movies! I pledged to read the entire series in December but… 😝
Anywho, thank you for tagging me to do this! I can’t wait to do it.

  3. The Hunger Games got me back into reading as well. I probably wouldn’t be so into reading as I am now had I not read the Hunger Games series. 🙂 I had to put More Than This aside, because I was so bored with it. I want to pick it up again, because I am hoping that only the beginning is what is boring. I heard amazing things about it, so I want to see these amazing things!!

    Thanks for tagging me!

      1. I think I am definitely going to pick it up again at some point next year. I know a lot of people like it and I honestly didn’t give it a fair chance.

  4. Loved the Hunger Games, it launched me into my reading mania. A Darker Shade of Magic was wonderful! I’m glad you liked it. Thank you for the tag!

Also, my blog name is BookZILLAn society, not BookZILLIAn society.

    Love and books,

  5. What a cool tag! Looks like I’ll be doing this one soon since November is coming to a close and I’ll feel weird starting this tag with November when it’s not November if that makes sense (probably doesn’t; it’s so early or late depending how you look at it).

And yes! Kell’s coat is uber cool! I remember reading that first page of ADSoM that describes his coat like seven times because I was an “Everything Reader” that became “The Eavesdropper.” XD
