Villain Squad Tag
Howdy. I was tagged by Trisha Ann @ The Bookgasm Blog to do the Villain Squad Tag to conjure up a dream team…ish comprised of villains. I decided to go with both book and tv/film options for each.

Think of your own villain identity and power!
If it had to be elemental based, I’m totally going with water-esqe powers which could totally lead to blood-bending (if you’re familiar from Avatar).
If not, then it’d be cool to have powers similar to Anonymous from Scott Westerfelds Zeroes. DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M REFERRING TO? THEN YOU’LL HAVE TO REAAAAD IT. Surely there’s a lot of tomfoolery you can get up with with a special kind of invisibility.
The Leader – Pick a villain to lead the squad
Book: Mayor Prentiss (Chaos Walking Trilogy, Ness)
Extremely calculated and one of the most rationally sound and morally ambiguous characters. He’s perhaps my favourite villain of all time.
TV/Film: Raymond Reddington (The Blacklist)
James Spader is my spirit villain. He gives so much life to this role oh my god. And he’s always 12731893137 steps ahead of everyone until Lizzie fucks everyones plan 1293812 times over… But even when he was the voice of Ultron in The Avengers film, I could only see Raymond Reddington.

Book: …The Darkling? (The Grisha, Bardugo)
…Though I don’t think he’s a villain if I’m being honest. His ambitions are totally misunderstood, okay?
I haven’t read too many female villains actually. I’d love to hear of some titles that do feature female leads who are morally ambiguous and evil!
TV/Film: Cersei Lannister (Game of Thrones)
Shame. Shame. Shame. Shame. Shame.
No, but really…isn’t this how she gets people to do shit for her?
The Loose Canon – Pick a villain that marches to the beat of their own drum
Book: Anorexia (A Trick of the Light, Metzger)
Here’s a #QuietYA choice for you. The “villain” is anorexia itself and it’s a story wholly narrated by the the mental illness through a teenage boy’s perspective.
TV/Film: “It” (It Follows)
If you’re in need of a horror film this Halloween, I highly recommend you check this film out. And don’t confuse It with that fucking Clown in Stephen King’s book that has haunted my childhood. Coulrophobia for a lifetime.
The Unhinged One – Pick a villain that isn’t playing with a full deck.
Book: “Character” (Red Queen, Aveyard)
I couldn’t think of a solid answer but this one might work? Name omitted because it’s spoilery. If you’ve read Red Queen, you’ll know that this character is full of nonsense. (Note: I still very much disliked this book LOL.)
TV/Film: Tyrell Wellick (Mr. Robot)
I won’t explain myself. If there is a new television show you ought to watch coming out of the 2015 season, this 10-episode first season might sit up there. Great writing and compelling acting — what’s more to love?
The Redeemer – Pick a villain that’s on a path of redemption/would play both sides
Book: Basically everyone in Handmaid’s Tale (Margaret Atwood)
I couldn’t think of a solid answer for this but if you got to the end of this novel and consider the unreliability of everything…then yes, everyone [to me] was an antagonist with their own agendas.
TV/Film: Frank Underwood (House of Cards)
It’s a skewed path to redemption (and you might not even call it that) but Frank is hella adamant to what he wants and how he’ll get there. You’ll know within the first minute of the pilot that this dude means business.
The Evil One – Pick a Villain That’s Just Bad to the Bone
Book: Big Brother (1984, Orwell)
Symbolic or otherwise: I would not under any circumstances want to live in a place where a presence like Big Brother existed. (If you’re Canadian: remember to vote on Monday!)
TV/Film: Night’s King (Game of Thrones)
His “Come at me bro” stance was a golden moment.
The Once-Was-Good – Pick a villain that didn’t originally start out as a villain.
Book: “Character” in Reckoners (Brandon Sanderson)
I don’t know how this prompt exists without it being a spoiler for everyone who hasn’t read the book but if you’ve read Steelheart and Firefight…you know.
TV/Film: “Some New Hydra Leader” (Agents of SHIELD)
My ship is sinking hard…but this person is omitted because of spoilers LOL.

Ugh Spader can do no wrong in that role and part credit goes to the writing for making him so witty and enjoyable to watch! I’m so stoked for the second season of Mr. Robot. I read they’re going to explore darker themes (and I am all ready for it). That is the mystery with Tyrell! (Also I love Flipper the dog…)

Idk if I’d want to have Anon’s ability, I love him as a character but his ability has caused him so much heartache. If I could turn it off then, yeah, I’m totally on board with what he can do and would get into so serious mischief with his skill!

This is very true. His story hurt the most for me as well (which is why he was definitely my favourite character of the bunch) but I guess it’s cause i’m okay being alone with the option of who to connect with.

I prefer close friendships as well, so I can see where you’re coming from.
You know, I loved how Anon wanted people to see him (sometimes) but when people focused too much on him it made him uncomfortable. Like that whole thing gave me so many feels. Ugh, I could fangirl over that character all day, I loved his whole story and how he was brought to life. Lol.

I adored Anon, I really did. He is seriously one of my fav characters. But I posted my review of Zeroes today and unfortunately the book didn’t really live up to what I wanted. 😢 And this genuinely does make me sad because I wanted to love the whole book not just one character. But whatevs, I’m all in for Anon bc he’s boss.

My thought process [initially] involved film/tv because I actually couldn’t think of too many villains/antagonists in books that were unique choices and didn’t overlap with the other categories haha. if you do decide to binge some television shows, you’ll find wonderful antagonist embodiment in the characters listed! (At least I thought so.)

The Night’s King was horrible. A hundred-fold scary than all the walkers in The Walking Dead combined. Totally unrelated with this villain book tag but my very wild prediction for next season’s GOT will be Jon Snow’s death was a total sham.

Have you read SJ Maas’s ACOTAR? The main antagonist is female and just nasty.

BLOOD BENDING OR NOOOOTHINGGGGG. But then again, I always seem to gravitate towards water anything…. water-bending…water/ice pokemon…Winter (as a season)..Winter sports. Maybe it’s just in my Canadian blood LOL.
And no I haven’t read ACOTAR despite [everyone] telling me to read that AND Throne of Glass (the latter which I do plan on trying out as I often feel out of the loop in conversations :(!) But good to hear that the main villain is female! I need more morally ambiguous villains/anti-heroines in my books!

I’d seriously watch Raymond Reddington do Raymond Reddington things for the full hour. Plus Tom/Liz shippy drama (ugh, my heart). Did you see last weeks episode in the diner? So much fun!

So true! Raymond Reddington is one of the best TV characters EVER. And I love me some Tom, too! I’m glad they didn’t kill him off or something. I did watch it! I love the twist the show has taken this season.

Thank you for all the tags you’ve tagged me in in he past few months, and for this one,. This is a lifesaver, honestly. And TYRELL WELLICK!!!!!!!! I could not help but smirk at this one because YOU ARE SO RIGHT. OMG, I cannot believe we really did not see Tyrell in the season finale. That was ridiculous, I was disappointed, I was watching with some other people and we were all waiting for just A GLIMPSE of Tyrell after that penultimate episode, OMG. OMG, I lost track on the amount of posts of yours I have commented now, i’m hoping under 10?
