Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I thought this would be a fun way to share a condensed version of potential rambles and thoughts that I have.

Seasonal TBRs top ten tuesday lists will destroy me and my mental TBR pile. But onward we go to discovering new titles, am I right?

The Rest of Us Just Live Here – Patrick Ness

CPgnMFIUsAEh796You best know that I will be reading this soon. Fun fact: stores–sometimes–display not-yet published titles a week or two in advance. (At least, this is my experience.) So I went into Indigo (that’s like B&N, Waterstones, Dymocks for anyone outside CAN) and asked a lady if they received a shipment of this book and if it was possible to get a copy [3 weeks early]. I was rejected.

And to hype myself up even more, I changed my phone background last night to the image you see on your right. I made it just because. And because I will read whatever this man writes. I’m sure that much is clear.

Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo

I also asked about this title; which only has a week-ish until release, should be no problem, right? They declined this too. Life is unfair. And so we wait. This book wasn’t even high on my priority until last Tuesday when I started Grisha…and now I’m 30% done Book 3. I THINK I’M READING SLOWER BECAUSE IT’S ABOUT TO END THO…

Armada – Earnest Cline

I wanted to read this…then ARCs happened…then releases happened…then other random shit happened. Le sigh.

A Darker Shade of Magic – V.E. Schwab

While I’m still on the hunt for a relatively inexpensive hardcover of Vicious, the premise of this book sounded pretty neat. So I picked this up from Book Outlet when it was available. As my first foray into her writing, I’m hoping I won’t be disappointed! (Because, you know, hype and shit always seem to fail me.)

The Rook – Daniel O’Malley

As you may or may not know, I caved in and bought the paperback instead of my usual HC from Book Outlet. I really wanted to read it, okay?

The Scorpion Rules – Erin Bow

Honestly, this book is such a struggle for me to read. How do I explain it? I’m 90 pages in and the world-building [still] confuses the shit out of me. The saving grace is the A.I. villain overlord, Talis, but everything else is just a blergh. And there are goats, I guess, is the other plus.

This Is Where It Ends – Marieke Nijkamp

This was a spontaneous Read Now trigger-happy request on NetGalley. But hey, the blurb convinced me I needed it. Really needed it.

An Inheritance of Ashes – Leah Bobet

This is the only choice I’m on the fence about reading. I received a copy of this two months back and aside from the Six of Crows-esqe book cover, I’m unsure if it’s something that I’d enjoy actually.

The Thing About Jellyfish – Ali Benjamin

Here’s the thing: MG books I’ve picked up have actually never failed me–they’ve been strongly positive and usually 4+ stars for me. This book is published today (Sept 22) and next to Inheritance, it’s among the few that I’m not sure if I want to actually read.

The Winner’s Trilogy – Marie Rutkoski

I am convinced that I am missing out on everything in life because since starting Grisha last week…it has taught me that binge reading trilogies is very satisfying. BUT ALAS, THE NEXT BOOK IS RELEASED IN MARCH. So maybe I won’t read this…

  1. Yeah I think you should marathon the winners trilogy. I’ve read the first one and loved it. Second one I bought for like 80 pence on my kindle 😀 Waiting for the third book to be released, so I can marathon.

  2. I feel like we’ve discussed The Rook before, but I can’t find the post. Anyway, it is awesome and I hope you LOVE it! I’ve had the sequel, Stiletto, preordered since June and it doesn’t even come out until January and I’m not a big preorderer (that’s totally not a word).

    1. I’ve heard mostly terrible things for Armada (well terrible in the sense of “does not live up to Ready Player One”) but since I haven’t read RPO, I have no expectations!

      Why do you find The Winner’s Trilogy tiring as it progresses? The decisions? Cliched writing and tropes?

    Still so jealous of your hardcover ADSoM though. My UK paperback is feeling ugly. I actually almost bought The Winner’s Curse yesterday but it was paperback…and if it’s as good and mind-blowing as everyone says it is then I need to marathon the whole thing when all the books are out.

      I totally interpreted your “UK paperback” cover of ADSOM as the one for Vicious (which I actually like more than the orange-y hardcover). I’ve never heard Winner’s Curse being mind-blowing, so that’s interesting to hear. I’ll probably end up marathonning it…

  10. I didn’t like Shadows and Bones but I feel like I’m missing out on The Grisha trilogy something fierce cos omg everything associated with that series is SO PRETTY!! Why didn’t you order the UK version of The Rest Of Us! It’s soooo beautiful urgh!!

    1. Maybe Siege and Storm will get you back into it? There’s this dude that everyone enjoys (myself included) and his wit is pretty ballsy.

      I WILL IN THE END PROBABLY BECAUSE I NEED BOTH VERSIONSSSS. Why is he doing this to us with two covers both stellar in their own rights (glow in the dark v.s. signature Ness simplicity)

  11. Nessochism? Literally the most beautiful word I have ever come across. And yeah, I totally agree with you- if Ness wrote an ode to an onion, I would read it and probably adore it. xD

    As for the Winner’s trilogy, so much YES. The first two books were phenomenal- so politically dense and unlike what I initially expected. Too many feels.

Surprinsgly, I’ve only seen the Winner’s Curse mentioned here and there (after the hype–unlikes other series like TOG where the hype NEVER dies). so it’s surprising to hear a lot of people mentioning their interest of it! I’ll probably end up waiting for the third one to binge the series…well, that’s the plan at least!

  13. I am reading The Rest Of Us Just Live Here at the moment. It took me a while to get into it but I am really enjoying it now. Patrick Ness is so fantastic. Six of Crows is also on my TTT. I must also check out A Darker Shade of Magic.

  16. I was so excited for The Grisha, then I read Shadows and Bones and my excitement tapered off. It didn’t have enough Russian elements for something inspired by Russian culture, plus the mangling of Russian terms with fantasy words? Meh. But I do have Siege and Storm lined up. I hop that one’ll be better.

    As for The Winner’s Curse, I’m also torn between starting it and waiting for the conclusion to be published. Haha.

    1. I think I overlooked the Russian aspects of it. I’ve heard it was inspired? But my mind was off-set by the Attack on Titan-esqe story line that I was just like smiling like an idiot while reading it.

      I feel like you’d enjoy this new dude in Siege and Storm (if you’ve heard of him before). He’ll make you knees weak, I’m sure.

      But I’ve probably decided that I’ll wait for the series binge instead of starting it early (but no guarantees, I guess).

      1. The language just kept agitating me. Like “kefta” is a play on the Russian word “kaftan” and that’s just one recurring example. But then other Russian words were retained, so it made it very inconsistent.

        Anyway, I do have Siege & Storm on my bookshelf, so I’ll read it when I’m back home in Nov. Although, weak knees? Hahaha. That only a good singer can accomplish 😉

      1. If I wait for it to be released in France, I will wait FOR MONTHS, FOREVER!! 😦 I just need to order it as soon as I get money, because I’m sort of broke right now…and will be again right after I spend everything I got in books haha. What a life.

  20. AH!!!! READ SIX OF CROWS soon! ALSO Winner’s trilogy is the BEST!!!!! Well the first two anyways, don’t have the third yet but I’m sure it will be AMAZING also! I’m planning to read Ness’ books in October also. THIS IS WHERE IT ENDS is one that I have but probably won’t get to until Nov or Dec. I have Scorpion Rules but I’m on the fence about it, I didn’t care for Bow’s last release and then I’m hearing a lot of mixed about this one so my excitement has kind of subsided for now :-/ I hate when that happens. ALSO ADSOM is a MUST. It is SOOOOOOOOO good!!!
