How I Read Book Tag
Ello! How is you today? This tag comprises of questions you’ve probably seen in other tags (and I do feel like I’ve answered these questions before) — perhaps in the Reading Habits Tag — but another tag calls for another post.

How did you find out about new books to read?
[Not] surprisingly, I lean heavily on Top Ten Tuesday posts regarding yearly debuts and/or seasonal TBRs to find additions to the pile.
I need to make it clear that I rarely shelve books on Goodreads as “Want to read”. Instead, I take a mental note and if I see it often enough (i.e. hype), the retention value increases and I’ll just know…I guess? The logic is that I only categorize titles that I either own-and-will-want-to-read or those that I really-want-to-read so I don’t have to go about making thousands of shelving LOL. Because I’m lazy.
How did you get into reading?
My reading career was spawned by academic reading; from The Outsiders to Lord of the Flies and Handmaid’s Tale. But those were all for study–nothing really leisure. Once I entered my later years of university (when I got back into writing that wasn’t fanfiction), I read more–The first Hunger Games book being credited as the title that got me interested in leisurely reading. (Which sounds pretty sadistic of me if you think about it…)
How has your taste in books changed as you got older?
Considering I “started late” in terms of leisure reading, the reading career has only just begun.
How often do you buy books?
I can usually wait until a sale happens. There are some cases that catch me by surprise and I just instabuy it (e.g. Red Queen) but I can definitely wait for it to pop up on Book Outlet (which I check religiously everyday) or have the generic 40% off sale in store. Being frugal is necessary.
How did you get into book reviewing?
Honestly, I wanted to share my word vomit on Rick Yancey’s The 5th Wave and Patrick Ness’ More Than This – the first two reviews I spent a great deal of time writing. These reviews, retrospectively, are pretty horrendous to read now.
I also had lengthy convos with my highschool friend, Savindi @ The Streetlight Reader (who has recently retired from book blogging/reviewing…or just taking a long hiatus), about the community etc. and was a major backer toward cultivating a voice for myself. She still often beta reads most of the Think Aloud discussions seen on this blog.
How do you react when you don’t like the end of a book?
Simple: I bitch about it in my review.
But honestly, it takes a lot for me to thoroughly dislike a title. I try to remain as objective as possible and give credit where it’s due. Alternatively, the journey typically outweighs the destination for me.
How often do you take a sneak peak at the ending to see if there is a happy ending?
Never. I get why some people might…but I also don’t. This is hypocritical as to my last answer (journey > destination) but if you know what happens on the last page, my logic is that the suspense is ruined and you’ll always have that mindset that it’s heading towards XYZ without fail. And that’s no fun.

Being frugal is definitely a thing when it comes to books. Why buy a book for $25 when you can get it for half price or less?!

I made two different shelves on Goodreads, because my “to-read” shelf was getting crazy with books I knew I probably wouldn’t read or anytime soon. So I made one for those and then ones that I know for sure that I want to read/own.
I don’t understand why people want to read the ending of a book and then go back to read the entire thing. I want the suspense! My older sister used to do that. She said she did it because if anything was to happen to her then at least she knows how the book ended. lol.
I guess I get it and not to sound morbid or anything, but I think if I died in the middle of a book and there was an afterlife or something…it would haunt me not knowing how the story ended. How could I live peacefully wherever my soul goes not knowing what happened. LOL!! I would still personally never look at the ending of a book though.

I try to never get on bookoutlet these days (well except for that recent purchase). With my book buying tendencies, I would go broke if I went on every day. LOL. Then again, it’s also a bad thing since I almost missed my chance of getting ADSoM. But I guess it wouldn’t be too big of a deal since I’ve already read it, but it’s so good that I wanted to actually have a copy!
…I’m guilty of peeking at the end. But instead of actually reading/skimming it, I just rest my eyes on one single word. So sometimes it’s a spoiler if it’s a name (like if I thought they were going to die but it’s confirmed they’re alive, etc) and sometimes it’s meaningless if it happens to be a random preposition, lol. But… yeah. I do agree it’s all about the journey, but I can’t help it!
