[Miscellaneous] Awards/Tags — The TBR Book Tag

Miscellaneous is the tagline to store random posts that don’t really belong elsewhere. They may involve tags, awards, challenges, and other book blogging nonsense.

What’s Miscellaneous Today?
The TBR Book Tag

Let’s revive an old tag that has been sitting in my folder for half a year, shall we? I was tagged by my sister from another mister (I confirmed on Google that this is a thing), Rachel “Rx” @ Confessions of a Book Geek. Onward.

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

I don’t really keep track of it. If it grows it grows but it’s mostly a mental note than anything. Like, I don’t really optimize Goodreads shelving and mark books as “to be read”. If I see something that I know I want to be I’ll be like “oh yeah, this thing!” and hope it goes somewhere in long term memory. If I remember it: cool, if not, then that’s okay. It’ll come back when the time’s right for it.

Is your TBR mostly print or eBook?

The most logical answer is neither as TBRs are based on what you do want to read and it surely eclipses anything you’d own in print or digital. But in terms of my actual piles, my physical backlist is what I need to read. I only purchase eBooks that I know I’ll read immediately because I do not own an eReader (which I’ve been telling myself to get—and many of you have already vouched for its necessity).

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

Brain: Hey, what should we rea—

Arm-hand-limb-thing: THE HEART GOES THIS WAY!!!

Mood: STFU.

— a day in the life of TBR choosing from yours truly. (No, but seriously, that’s probably 90% true. Fucking Moody is a bitch.)

A book that’s been on your TBR list the longest?

Ha…haha…HAHAHAHAA. What a funny question…I plead the Fifth Amendment.

A book you recently added to your TBR?

Leigh Bardugo - Six of Crows - Book CoverI wouldn’t be able to tell you the “most recent” but what I can say is that Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows has moved from “k i’ll tbr this” to “I will instabuy you”-level of need. Look: I haven’t read her Grisha series but this new book sounds promising and comes at perhaps a phase of recent superhero fiction THAT HASN’T LET ME DOWN THIS YEAR. It’s obviously a sign.

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?

I don’t cover-lust that much. It helps…but the blurb is more important. But if I’m being honest, it’s probably Claudia Gray’s Firebird series. Like, whoever the fuck came up with the designs…TAKE MY MONEY. ALL OF IT.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?

Joyce Carol Oates - Two or Three Things I Forgot To Tell You - Book CoverJoyce Carol Oates’ Two or Three Things I Forgot To Tell You. It was a super cheap purchase so I’m not sad at all if I don’t read it but it’s totally just chilling on my shelf (and by shelf, I mean my desk with all 12973217128 of my other books…). It also doesn’t help that the ratings are super garbage LOL. Actually, I feel like I only bought it because it was the most interesting out of the limited selection of a bargain sale at Indigo/Chapters and I needed another book to qualify for the 50%-off total purchase (and pricing was different per book).

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?

I GUESS I COULD SAY NESS…BUT I WON’T. NOPE. YOU CAN’T MAKE ME.

Rick Yancey - The Last Star - Book Cover Alexandra Bracken - Passenger - Book Cover Brandon Sanderson - Calamity - Book Cover

Rick Yancey’s The Last Star? (Because The Infinite Sea was a shit show for me…)

Alexandra Bracken’s Passenger? (It’s another “hello book cover!” moment…)

Brandon Sanderon’s Calamity? (Probably my most needed book in 2016 atm. I too did not know the cover was released…)

A book on your TBR that everyone has read but you?

LOL THIS IS SO EASY. THRONE OF GLASS? MISTBORN? ARI & DANTE? (Among others but these ones stick out to me.)

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?

Probably Throne of Glass…but humour me a bit—which book/series do you think I ought to read?

A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

Ernest Cline’s Armada—since Joyousreads gifted me a copy (THANKS, JOY, YOU’RE A LOVELY LADY) I’m legit waiting for #ARCAugust to be over so I can start it…

How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

Too fucking many.

  1. LOL I’m loving my Rx title. I preordered Six of Crows and I haven’t even read something by Leigh yet. And yes, get on Throne of Glass, but also try Uprooted, fantasy standalone!! (Obligatory) R x

  2. Love this tag and thanks for tagging me! Currently working on my post! 🙂

Just because I haven’t said it enough (I probably said it way TOO much), you should read the I Hunt Killers series by Barry Lyga! lol. I’m sure everyone is over me talking about this series, but it was SOOOO good!

Six of Crows sounds like such an awesome book and I can’t wait for it! I definitely need it!

      1. OMG, really!?! I swear I’ve mentioned this series in every other post of mine for the last month and a half. Hahah! The series has become my favorite series ever! I love the way Barry Lyga writes. I think you would totally have a bromance with Jasper! It’s so hard not to love him. Anyway, yes…definitely check I Hunt Killers out!

  3. GAH – Throne of Glass!! That’s another one I wish you’d read and review for me. Everyone says it’s the shit – I want Joey’s stamp of approval before I give into the hype.

    Also – GET A KINDLE.

And – I think I’m going to try the Bardugo series this week. That Six of Crows keeps getting so much attention.

    1. WE’RE TAKING BABY STEPS. While one team is screaming for Throne of Glass, there is a crowd sippin on hipster coffee or something promoting The Grisha…SO I (WE?) HAVE FOLDED AND NOW IT WILL BECOME REALIZED SOON.

I think you can trust 100k+ people over my little opinion on Throne of Glass though.. LOL.

  4. GOLLY, GOSH GOSH. I can’t wait to see what you think of Six of Crows… I’m really excited for that one too. Instead of instabuying I actually preordered it! 😀

And hurrah! Thanks for another tag, Joey! (I’ve been posting two to three tags weekly and I still feel like it hasn’t left a virtual e-dent in my tag queue!)

  5. Omg Six of Crows is about superheroes?! I thought it was just set in the Grisha universe but now I might actually try reading that series before Six of Crows releases???
I didn’t actually read the second book in the 5th Wave series but I found the 1st book okay? I heard the second was horrible but ehhhh
I feel like this tag is going to be incriminating for so many people XD definitely me when I do it. That last question about the Goodreads tbr… man I relate to your answer so much.
I will do this tag but I probably won’t until like three months from now. So. Thanks for adding on to the already massive queue of tags/award posts XD
