[Miscellaneous] 2015 Book Blogger Love-A-Thon — High Five!

loveathon2015

The Book Blogger Love-A-Thon is hosted by Alexa Loves Books and is a two day event to spread the love of blogs and blogging within the community. It runs from Feb 21-22, 2015 from 9am-9pm EST

Thoughts:

And now you’re thinking “wtfffff!? Joey posting 4 posts in 2 days–did someone hijack his blog?” Yes, yes someone did. This will be the last challenge post in this blogaloveathon thing before I go MIA again.

High Five Challenge

The focus of this challenge looks at what’s making us happy in the following categories.

Book:  The Alex Crow — Andrew Smith

the alex crow cover - andrew smith

Once again blending multiple story strands that transcend time and place, Grasshopper Jungle author Andrew Smith tells the story of 15-year-old Ariel, a refugee from the Middle East who is the sole survivor of an attack on his small village. Now living with an adoptive family in Sunday, West Virginia, Ariel’s story of his summer at a boys’ camp for tech detox is juxtaposed against those of a schizophrenic bomber and the diaries of a failed arctic expedition from the late nineteenth century. Oh, and there’s also a depressed bionic reincarnated crow.

This is my first experience with Smith and let me just say that while I’m not incredibly far into this read, it is shaping up to be the weirdest thing I have read in a very long time. A good kind of weird, maybe...I don’t even knooooooooow.

Genre:  Science-Fiction

I would have really just said ALL THE GENRES but this one was the one that got me into reading and keeps me involved in this reading thing.

Author: Brandon Sanderson

If this weekend LoveAThon is all about showing love and appreciation then this man seriously wins at life. If you follow his twitter, you know that where ever he travels, he usually signs his books at the airport (among other places). And don’t forget: signed books is pretty much crack to readers, am I right? What a stand-up guy, really.

Blogger(s):

This is perhaps my favourite section of this post and one that really needed to be written about. You may be like, “oh, hey, where’s all the testosterone in the book blogging community?” — I can’t answer that but I can help open some doors for you to those individuals I myself follow! You may or may not have heard of some of these dudes (generally WordPress-based) but I’m making it my mission to give these bros a shout-out because I can:

Miguel @ The Quirky Reader
Liam @ Liams Library
Cristian @ The Bookish God
Shelumiel @ Bookish and Awesome
Perco @ The Bookish Ogre
Brett @ Demons Read Too
Levi @ Levi Issacs Blog
Mark @ Bongbong Books
Lawrence @ Pages Unraveled
Kainzow? @ Eye of Lynx

…now go forth and follow them all!

(Some assumptions were made based on the information I could find LOL–I apologize if I am grossly incorrect.)

Muji page markersBookish Merch / Book Related Site

I’ll take post-its anyway you give them to me. I use them like crazy when I read because I tab pages so often. I’m currently using the Muji brand 30x10mm page markers as seen on the right–they’re basically the perfect pre-cut size and only (on average) overlap a few letters of the words on the margins.

…and back blog hopping I go.

Cheers,
Joey

  1. Aah. Thanks for the shout out, man! Your thoughts and afterthoughts are always interesting. Also, I’m checking out these other guys you mentioned. Also also, I’ll be having my first taste of Smith’s work as well, albeit for a different book. Cheers!

  2. Thank you for the shout out! Thanks to you people from Japan and the Philippines have now seen my blog which is MIND-BLOWING!
Also, my interest in Andrew Smith died after I read the monstrosity that was ‘Winger’ – absolutely awful novel.
