[Miscellaneous] 2015 Book Blogger Love-A-Thon — Book Haul Spine Poetry

loveathon2015

The Book Blogger Love-A-Thon is hosted by Alexa Loves Books and is a two day event to spread the love of blogs and blogging within the community. It runs from Feb 21-22, 2015 from 9am-9pm EST

Thoughts:

1) I promised someone I’d take a haul picture of my recent February Book Outlet purchases;

2) I missed yesterday’s Book Spine Poetry;

3) I am still alive from post-bachelor party bonanzas…

(This was the only picture of the bunch that I felt needed a different photo treatment–but I kind of flubbed it LOL.)

Parallel (Lauren Miller)

Archetype (M.D. Waters)

(Listed: Sci-Fi: Dystopia, Romance, Mystery, Thriller)

Nil (Lynne Matson)

On the mysterious island of Nil, the rules are set. You have one year. Exactly 365 days–to escape, or you die.

Ru (Kim Thuy)

Ru. In Vietnamese it means lullaby; in French it is a small stream, but also signifies a flow – of tears, blood, money.

(Listed: Fiction, CanLit, Cultural: Asia/France)

The Alex Crow (Andrew Smith)

Andrew Smith chronicles the story of Ariel, a refugee who is the sole survivor of an attack on his small village. Now living with an adoptive family in Sunday, West Virginia, Ariel’s story is juxtaposed against those of a schizophrenic bomber and the diaries of a failed arctic expedition from the late nineteenth century . . . and a depressed, bionic reincarnated crow.

(Listed: YA, Sci-Fi, Fiction, Humour, Fantasy)

Past The Shallows (Favel Parrett)

Harry and Miles are too young to leave home and so are forced to live under the dark cloud of their father’s mood, trying to stay as invisible as possible whenever he is home. Harry, the youngest, is the most vulnerable and it seems he bears the brunt of his father’s anger…

(Listed: YA, Fiction, Cultural: Australia YA)

Every Day (David Levithan)

Every day a different body. Every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl.

(Listed: YA, Contemporary, Romance, LGBT)

Words of Radiance (Brandon Sanderson)

In that first volume, we were introduced to the remarkable world of Roshar, a world both alien and magical, where gigantic
hurricane-like storms scour the surface every few days and life has adapted accordingly. Roshar is shared by humans and the enigmatic, humanoid Parshendi, with whom they are at war. Among those caught up in the conflict are Brightlord Dalinar Kholin, who leads the human armies; his sister Jasnah, a renowned scholar; her student Shallan, a brilliant but troubled young woman; and Kaladin, a military slave who, by the book’s end, had become the first magically endowed Knight Radiant in centuries.

In Words of Radiance their intertwined stories will continue and, as Sanderson fans have come to expect, develop in unexpected, wonderfully surprising directions.

(Listed: Fantasy: Epic Fantasy, Magic, Adventure)

Not listed above but also purchased was Suzanne Young’s The Treatment. As mentioned in a previous post, the two books I wanted to buy was Kim Thuy’s Ru and Brandon Sanderon’s Words of Radiance. …It just happened to be the 50/50 Science-Fiction sale at the same time (50 Sci-Fi titles at marked down prices, generally). Annnnnnnnnnnd it just kept piling on. I derped.

Otherwise, I also focused on diversifying my library to balance out the Sci-Fi’s be it CanLit or contemporary.

…and now I also realize why I’m so  mediocre at poems.

Cheers,
Joey

    1. I wish they had Sanderson’s first book, Way of Kings, in hardcover at BookOutlet. I would have bought it then and there too. But alas, I must find it elsewhere for cheap prices before I can actually start the beastly series.

      Sounds like you drank more than your weight–happy days of birth though! You can forever remember this day as the day you were ejected from your mother’s womb :)!
